On February 19th we got to attend the 3rd annual North Texas Craft Beer Chili Challenge at Luck in Trinity Groves. This was our first time out to visit the area and we weren't really sure what to expect.
The setup was quite fantastic for an event like this! The patio was open and each of the 30 or so breweries had a tent set up.
The whole purpose of the event was to raise money for North Texas Food Bank. The idea is that those attending would purchase cups and then go taste and vote for their favorite chili. For $10 you got 10 cups. Each of the different chilis were made with beers from the competing breweries.
As you walked to each of the booths, you could taste the chili and learn about the brewery. Each booth was staffed with many people and it was a great opportunity to learn more and meet the people behind your favorite beers!
While the booths had a ton of awesome chili, what they didn't have was beer! To get that you had to go into the restaurants. Luck of course was featuring beer from each of the 30 breweries competing and for the most part the line was pretty manageable. You could also carry your beer with you as you went around to taste at each of the stops. There were a few spots set up selling beer around the event, but the choices for those were a bit limited and if you wanted something specific you needed to head to Luck.
Quite honestly, we aren't the biggest fan of crowded events with long lines - and this being our first trip we didn't really know what to expect. We were pleasantly surprised and we plan to visit for any future events!
The chili was fantastic and I don't really think I could pick a favorite! Many were a unique mix of flavors and styles. Together Corey and I tasted every chili available and enjoyed very much chatting with each of the competitors.
We will definitely be heading back there next year for the big event, as well as visiting again soon just to spend some time at Luck! We have provided some details below so you can check them out as well!
